About

This site is the result of transforming Rupi Kaur’s printed book, Milk and Honey, into an intuitive user interface narrative. Her poems and illustrations are brought to life in an intimate setting between herself and the reader as the user becomes involved in animating the life of her writing and art within this interface.

Please visit kaitlyn-p2.webflow.io to experience the narrative journey of Rupi Kaur’s poems.

Animations and Illustrations

In Rupi Kaur’s original book she carefully creates illustrations that correspond with each poem. Each of her drawings visualize the pain, hurt, love, and joy she experiences in her life.

On the site, I’ve animated her illustrations to make them come to life and interact with her poems in a manner that cannot be accomplished in a print format. This creates an intimate setting between the reader and Kaur’s work as the reader waits for the poem and illustration to reveal themselves while scrolling through the site.

Chapters

Milk and Honey is divided up into four chapters, the hurting, the loving, the breaking, and the healing. As the reader scrolls through, each chapter reveals itself once the poems end in one chapter while the new chapter flows into the screen.

If the reader chooses to skip around from one chapter to another, they are able to click on the title in the navigation bar where it will then redirect them to the location of the chapter within the website.

At the end of the site, there are no poems to be revealed or read. In the poem’s place is Kaur’s illustration of a beehive where the reader can hover over the illustration and click on it. From this action, the reader is directed to a site where they can purchase the printed book and read all of the poems Kaur has poured her soul into.

About Rupi Kaur Author Page

In addition to the poems, there is an author’s page dedicated to Rupi Kaur. It further explains who she is as a writer and provides an insight into who she is as a person. Following the success of Milk and Honey, Kaur has gone on to write a sequel poem book titled, The Sun and Her Flowers, where the user can click the “now available” button and purchase.
